Unsettling discoveries in the same building

At around 14:00 on July 17, officers from the Pattaya City Police Station were called to a fifth-floor unit in the unnamed condotel behind the Tukcom Shopping Centre in South Pattaya. Inside, they found the naked body of a 38-year-old Swedish national lying near an overflowing bathtub. A one-inch laceration on his forehead and right eyebrow was observed, and blood was visible in the bathwater. No signs of struggle were found, but CCTV footage recorded a short-haired woman exiting the room before discovery of the body.

Just two hours later, at approximately 16:00, the same building’s seventh floor became the scene of the second death. The lifeless body of a 54-year-old Australian man was found lying face-down with a broken glass by his left elbow and multiple medication bottles scattered nearby. According to the building caretaker, 27-year-old Thunkchanok Prajit, a friend of the Australian had raised concerns after not hearing from him for two days and alerted her. When she entered the unit she encountered a strong foul odour and immediately contacted the police.

Investigation underway with all angles on the table

Both bodies were transferred to a local hospital for forensic examination and for next-of-kin and embassy notifications. While investigators say there is currently no concrete evidence of a link between the two deaths, the uncanny timing, same building, and unusual circumstances have kept officers from ruling out any possibility. “All possibilities are being considered,” stated a police spokesperson, as CCTV review and forensic evidence collection continues. The building’s name is being withheld during the investigation.

What’s behind the tragedy and how authorities are responding

In one of Thailand’s high-traffic tourist zones, such incidents are rare, especially two in the same property within hours of each other. Investigators are examining environmental factors, possible substance use, medical history of the deceased, and hotel/condotel security footage to reconstruct each timeline. They are also interviewing residents and staff in the building. Local authorities stress that while tourism remains safe overall, visitors and operators alike should remain vigilant and report anything unusual.

Authorities are also liaising with the Swedish and Australian embassies to address consular matters and family notifications, and plan to review the building’s safety records, guest logs, and security systems.

Though the official cause of each death remains undetermined, what is clear is the high-level scrutiny this case has drawn.
